Belgium was a primary battleground during the World Wars and has a history of conflict that still lingers today between the French-speaking areas and the German and Dutch areas; however, efforts are being made to eliminate these tensions.
Belgium is very easy to navigate and you can be virtually anywhere within the country within several hours by car. There are many other ways to travel the country. A wonderful rail system, good roads and even hitchhiking and cycling are great ways to navigate the byways of Belgium.
Besides chocolate as a national pastime, Belgium proudly boasts a thriving brewery industry. With Belgium companies having a stake in the international beer market the Belgium's are as adept at the fine art of brewing as they are at chocolate making. Another claim to fame is the French fry. Belgium stakes claim to having invented the French fry and you will find shops that specialize in them in every city. Sometimes topped with various toppings you will want to be sure to sample Belgium French fries. Each shop proudly offers its own version of frites. The Belgium people are amiable and you will find it pleasurable to spend time in this European city. Be sure to pack a sweater as temperatures can tend to be cool and wet at times.
