The coastal town of Cascais, with a population of 35,000, is located in Portugal about 30 kilometers west of Lisbon. Although the main attraction of Cascais is the Bay, visits to the fortress, the Museum of the Sea, and the interesting Museum of Conde Castro Guimaraes, are all worthwhile. Other enjoyable activities include browsing the town's high fashion and beauty boutiques, or looking for exquisite embroidery and lace wares in the roadside stalls. Sun bathe or swim at one of the various small beaches in the area, jog along the seafront past the lively bars, or, if you are after shade, find yourself a table under the trees at the Parque do Marechal Carmona and watch the families visit its small zoo.
