Although Costa Rica's famed cloud forests, volcanoes, and beaches are not in the immediate area of this delightful city, there are many natural wonders within an hour or two's drive. All major car rental companies are available for your convenience. Nearby is the Africa Mia, an African safari providing a truly spectacular experience. Nearby beaches include Playa de Coco that hosts many restaurants, souvenir shops, and nightlife, Playa Hermosa, a calm beach for ocean swimming and great scuba diving; and Playa Tamarindo, a beach famous for its sunsets, party scene, and intermediate surfing conditions. Liberia is less than three hours to Arenal Volcano, which hosts a wide range of activities including canopy tours and hot springs. Monteverde Cloud Forest, with stunning natural beauty and wildlife, is within a three and half hour drive. Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National Park is just northeast of Liberia and features many hiking trails, hot springs and bubbling clay pots as well as numerous waterfalls and rivers.
With innumerable attractions and activities within close proximity, as well as a wonderful atmosphere, quality accommodations, and outstanding dining opportunities, Liberia is an ideal city from which to discover Costa Rica or at which you may begin or end your Costa Rican experience on a high note.
