Boasting clean, white sandy beaches, tropical forested hills, and real Caribbean charm, and diverse cultures, Roatan is thought to be the Caribbean's best-kept secret. Its wonderful weather, refreshing cool breezes, protected bay and warm and hospitable population are delightful. Numbering some 65,000, the people of Roatan are a mix of British, Spanish, Payan Indian and African cultures. Most of the population resides on the western end of the island.
The island has a wide range of first class local and international cuisine at the many restaurants and bars. The island cuisine incorporates food items that grow naturally on Roatan, such as plantains and bananas, guavas, mangoes, coconut, breadfruit and key limes. Other dietary mainstays are seafood, beans, rice and chicken.
The island enjoys a sunny tropical climate, with an average annual daily temperature of 27 degrees Celsius. The constant cooling sea breeze makes the temperature more comfortable. The rainy season is October to January.
