Nettuno is a popular destination for visitors. It offers a well-preserved old quarter, the Borgo Medievale, with mediaeval streets and small squares that contain craft shops, restaurants and friendly bars. Forte Sangallo, a castle built in 1503 by renaissance architect Antonio Da Sangallo II Vecchio, is also located here. A visit to the beautiful, privately-owned villa, the Villa Costaguti-Borghese at Nettuno, is well worthwhile. The Villa, constructed in 1648, boasts extensive gardens in a landscape park developed around 1840 and is classified as a nature reserve.
Nettuno is under an hour's drive to the airport in Fiumicino, and an even shorter distance to the airport in Ciampino (50 km). From these locations, a train will take you from Fiumicino to the Rome Termini train station in about 35 minutes, while bus service from Ciampino to Rome Termini takes about 50 minutes.
Nettuno is extremely family friendly, and offers all visitors various sporting activities including sailing, windsurfing, scuba diving, football and golf. Visitors quickly fall into a regular rhythm of going to the beach and then wandering into old town to enjoy a cappuccino while watching the yachts come in and out of the marina. This is an ideal destination for those wishing to combine a coastal break with trips to Rome.
